Mythic Natures Exhibition: Specimen 4

Part of a series called “Specimen”, this painting arranges contradictory images into one crowded space: there is the archetypal rose flower but cut up, an egg shrouded by thorns, a skull lying next to a rice stack, pepper plant growing up, a water mug next to an unearthed banana plant connected to a short banana bunch- nature is a human myth.

The painter wrote about the series: “Each specimen is a sample and sometime it represents ‘past memories’ and ‘present existence’ These motifs are not giving any direct narration and it make a linkage to my ‘inner world’ with the ‘outside’ socio political world”.

Note: Specimen in botany means “An organism, part of an organism, or fossil that has been collected and
usually preserved, especially for display or scientific research”.
